In almost four decades of honouring artists throughout the country, this was the first time since its inception that the award was presented to a musician outside of the classical realm. Buttery has worked with an incredible myriad of artists including Dave Matthews, Jethro Tull, Vusi Mahlasela, multiple Grammy Award Winner Will Ackerman, Salif Keita, Preston Reed, Kaki King, The Violent Femmes, Jon Gomm and countless others. The media has cited him “as one of the finest exponents of the acoustic guitar in the World.” Expect high dynamics, deep grooves, delicate African inflections and mind-bending guitar playing of an entirely new order Mohd. Amjad Khan Mohd. Amjad Khan is a renowned tabla player of phenomenal proportions. The son of Ustad Islamuddin Khan, the 7th generation of Kirana Gharana, Amjad took his training from the well-known tabla player, Ustad Akram Khan. A classically trained tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances have established him as a national icon in his own country and abroad. His playing is marked by uncanny intuition and masterful improvisational dexterity, founded in formidable knowledge and study. Amjad started his learning when he was only 10 years old with his first stage performance at the tender age of 12 in Kolkata and he has continued to perform at various prestigious festivals all over India with innumerable artists. Amjad is appreciated today both in the field of percussion and for his musical understanding as an international phenomenon. Mudassir Khan Mudassir Khan plays the very rare and difficult sarangi, the instrument known to be most similar to the human voice. When the exceptionally talented Mudassir Khan performs the sarangi with his highly focused devotion, upcoming generations of the instrument can rest assured that the sarangi’s future is in good hands. Son of Ustad Asif Ali, Mussair began his intensive training at the young age of 7 years old and is the 7th generation in his family line. He is now considered to be regarded as the one of the leading sarangi players of this generation performing regularly right across the sub-continent of India.
